REVIVAL: SK AT EPICENTER

Revival: SK at Epicenter

I'm a bit late with this one, but in my defense, I didn't know it existed!  Over a month and a half ago, SK Gaming's in-house editor, Molen, released a movie recapping all the action from Epicenter 2017.  As the organization put it, they returned to their winning ways by showcasing how much of a force they can be when they are fragging out of their minds.

The frags are obviously top notch and Molen attempts to do them justice by pairing them with a rock/electronic(?) oriented soundtrack.  After an intial watch through the flick, I immediately thought that Molen's editing and overall knowledge of his programs has increased since I last heard from him.  He gets a little more imaginative with his VFX and has stylized his editing in this particular film.  Syncing is prevalent throughout and creative transitions make an appearance.

It's unfortunate that there are some technical and directorial flaws that take away from this movie.  Once again, Molen struggles with loud and overbearing ingame.  Gun shots and other SFX overpower the OST and heavily distract from the viewing experience.  Additionally, loud and often awkwardly placed commentary blare in the viewers ear from time to time.  Molen appears to force the use of shoutcasters to the point that they overlap and run into one another (3:01 particularly stands out).  I wasn't a huge fan of his freecams, as they were a bit too crazy and out-of-control for me.  But i suppose that's personal preference.  One weird observation was his choice of song at 3:50.  This felt severely out of place and ended up being the song that led up to the severely anticlimactic finish at 6:25.  I felt very empty as SK raised the trophy instead of feeling thrilled and excited.  I think that Molen missed the mark on his song choice there.

Overall, Molen continues to work towards betterment.  I respect that he continues to build upon his craft and seeks to improve his ability in order to produce quality films for his employer.  Hopefully we will see him grow in the future!
