The Frag Arena Competition

Written by Zaknafein on 26. July 2009 15:09

The Frag Arena, whatever that is, is holding this competition where 100 players can win an account each worth $100. Okay, I don't know exactly what these accounts involve because the site is lacking lots of info, but it does say "You can finally play Counter-Strike for real money!" Well, that's not really new: There has been several sites before that allowed you to play games versus other teams or 1on1 and then win money per match, though tbh I think they're all down now. Hopefully this new system is more efficient because if it works nicely than it's another step in the right direction for professional esport.

If you are lucky, you can win a training session with Heaton! Omg *faint*.
Personally, I have no use for that at all, but I'm sure there are serious players out there who would like this opportunity. Although it sounds a bit funny to some of us, Heaton really can teach you alot of stuff. I've seen some of the training videos he made at SK-gaming, and there's alot of stuff he does that I didn't know about, but actually meeting Heaton is something I imagine only crazed fans and hardcore gamers would want/need. I personally wouldn't mind meeting him, but I have no need for his training.

But what the hell, check out what it says under terms:

Grand prize includes: 1½ hour training session with Heaton at a location decided by The Frag Arena at its sole discretion. Estimated value: 1000 Euro

1000€ for 1 1/2 hours holy batshit!! When did Heaton turn into a pimp and start charging bloodmoney by the hour? No way I would pay that much just for him to tell me how he got that ace against 4K. I should really do the same thing: Win a half-hour Premiere session with Zaknafein, program crash time included, estimated value: 100 million dollars.

Anyway, if you want to enter all you have to do is write why you should win. Basically a motivation letter. Unfortunately the terms state you have to be Nordic, meaning either Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland or Iceland (or the islands). And there is an 18-year old age restriction, which is good but also not tactical. I bet 99% of the people out there that are like "Holy shit I can meet Heaton" are 15-year olds.

Seriously though, this rant was nothing against Heaton. He's a good player who has been around since the beginning and he's won so many competitions that he deserves some respect...just try not to pimp yourself too much, Heaton.

If you want to try and win, head over to The Frag Arena website and sign up.

I wrote a couple of cheesy lines just for fun. Could be a cool thing. And yes, HeatoN has sold out a bit. But I guess he just wants to stay in the scene instead of finding another line of work. Though it's true that he is an inspiration for growing e-athletes :)

For me this sounds more like either some new "premium" content service or like trying to turn e-sport into some poker game, where there is only one likely winner - you guessed it - the casino.

#3 yeah, interesting point. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

#1 zeun yeah I'll enter too, just write something for the heck of it. If I win and meet Heaton I should do a vid about it haha. But I bet the winner is some crazed fan that wants to be professional but just can't pull it off.
