Original Movie Files

#1 - 19. Sep 2021 08:13
Hello Guys,

I am searching for original files of Gamemovies. I am currently uploading all Videos i found on an old hard drive to Youtube and providing the Download per Google Drive (I guess this will stay online longer than those old mirrors we used on Planet Videos).

Do any of you still have originals? .avi .wmv .mp4 etc. , for good Quality (YouTube Compression is still horrible) and most important: readme - files.

If you do, would you share them with me? Easiest would be packing it all into a .zip and uploading them to mega.nz, I guess : )

I try to share these old movies in a growing YT Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcP_8HoSHJRBh3_P_yeNzt296mFGR97Ay
If your Movie is in this playlist and you want me to remove it, just tell me :)

Are you only uploading videos that don't already exist on Youtube? Since I am seeing some videos provided by other channels in that playlist.

Unfortunately low-resolution videos get poor quality on YT these days (or if we are just used to >=1080p) so ideally one should upscale the videos by at least 2-4x or higher to reach 1080p or even 4K. The downside is that every video file would have to be re-encoded though. MovieNations did something like that, but I think they ignored the aspect ratio and stretched everything to 1920x1080(?) but these days Youtube will automatically adjust the aspect ratio of their video player, so a 4:3 video will get a 4:3 player rather than 16:9 + black bars etc.

Example of an upscale I did myself: Original vs Upscaled

(Not sure why the original is suddenly in 23 fps, pretty sure it used to be 30.)

Right now I upload every Video to YouTube where I have the original file. Thats the only way I can provide a Download Link for it in the Description. Only some Videos I can't upload for YouTube Copyright Reasons.

Your Idea of uploading Upscaled Videos makes a lot of sense - could you explain to me how to achieve this? Would I simply put the Videos into Vegas/Premiere and export as 4k?

Edit: I tested this and the Videos look much better on YouTube this way. I guess I will upscale the Videos then. Thanks for the Idea.

I used Handbrake to upscale my video, but in theory any software that can render should be able to do it. Vegas may not be able to read all kinds of formats though.

Just make sure you keep the same aspect ratio when upscaling, and ideally multiplying both the width and height by an even amount, either 2x or 4x :)

Good effort!

This guy has also uploaded a huge collection of old vids (although he is not good at crediting the creators)

I use Premiere right now - experimented a bit regarding resolution, but it seems to not make any difference if I use 3840 width or 2160 height as boundary.

Still, if any of you have any videos stored somewhere, please send them to me.?

I just checked his videos and sadly he does not convert the videos in the correct aspect ratio. Compare this upload of him with mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8GzLYxAAvo vs https://youtu.be/p9MI0V-Tqw0?
