What happened to Planet-Videos

#1 - 22. Feb 2020 18:03
Anyone know what happened to the old Planet-Videos site? Seems to be down and I can't find any news about it shutting down, unless it is in German somewhere.

I tried looking it up through the Wayback Machine, but many of their posts are not saved.

Would like to check download counts and rewards to record them. I know SvsC4 won best movie in the "Misc" category in 2010, and I think some of my other movies got rating awards or something, but doesn't seem to be a way to check now.

Is it weird to say that I've been saving, not screenshots but whole pages?
Zakna, this is all I have of SvsC4

Man, I actually get sad thinking back to those times that seem so far gone now.
Not long ago I went to quakenet and entered a whole lot of channels, just to see them empty. It gave me this weird empty feeling inside, as if I was in a ghost town and I could remember and feel all the happy moments that used to take place. But now, nothing but silence. All the matches, all the movies.. All the memories.

Hytex, I know what you mean. And if you talk to the post-QuakeNet generation today they don't understand the context. It was a network back then - the way we communicated with each other, did matches, collaborations - everything. The amount of people on your channel was also not comparable to say, YouTube subscribers today. Now it's dead anyway. Shame.

Raven - thanks for the screenshot!

I both miss and don't miss those times.  I miss them because it was awesome to have such a thriving, forum-based community (that I never appreciated).  I don't miss those times because, well, I was a major cunt in my teens and early 20s :D

Absolutely agree, Tony. I miss those good times, but at the same time that was all I had back then. I wasn't in a good place in my life, at all. So using CS and editing as a means of disconnecting from reality, was surely a real thing for me. In that sense my life is so much better now than it was, but I will always look back at those many hours behind the screen as a positive experience, even though the reasons for the many hours may not be as positive.

This quickly turned very deep, haha

Thanks for sharing that, dude.  Must have been really difficult for you.  It's amazing to hear what this hobby did for us kids back then.  I dealt with a really crazy identity crisis back then and being in this community helped (although I think I treated everyone pretty badly because I projected some personal life issues onto everyone).  Glad you worked through it and grew as a person.  Happy to still have you here.

Dear fellow boomers, we have Discord now. I know, I know, new technology is scary. But hey, it's quite similar to IRC.

I don't appreciate being personally attacked like that. I agree so much, I used to be such a cunt back then, I hate it. But then I also miss those times...

I don't have anything bad to say about those times, for me it was so much fun. But I feel pretty sad for those pages being shut down. You have no idea how many things I have forgotten from back then. Removing those pakes makes it even worse.
