ffdshow & mpeg-4 problem

#1 - 12. Jul 2011 01:34
Hi all

First of all I'm using ffdshow codec to render, so please don't tell me to use something else, because I know many of you might think it's a bad idea to use that :)

But, my problem is that once I'm trying to configure ffdshow in Sony Vegas 10 -> Render As -> Custom Settings -> Video Format -> Ffdshow (Configure) I want to choose MPEG-4 as encoder, and then Xvid as FOURCC. But I cannot choose MPEG-4 as encoder somehow, I don't know why. Would appreciate if you guys helped me. I spent all day trying to fix it! :P

I'm using Windows 7, Sony Vegas 10 64-bit.

Thanks,
Asker

I'm too confused here... ffdshow is a decoder (and encoder?) and not a codec. And do you have to make this work? Why not use a regular XviD encoder if you want XviD?

Legion uses ffdshow (:E) and can render in XviD, for example.

well tbh I'm not much into all these codecs, but I previously used this on my old pc, with ffdshow as codec in sony vegas on .avi, then ffdshow configuration -> choose MPEG-4 as encoder -> Xvid as FOURCC (or maybe it was mpeg-4 as fourcc dont exactly remember)

choosing that gave me access to changing bitrate (to 7000), those settings was given to me by kaffee and it used to work like a charm on my old pc, now on my windows 7 it's impossible for me to use ffdshow in sony vegas if I cannot choose that encoder option.
